Your Options

The Dallas Pregnancy Resource Center can provide you with one-on-one mentoring from a trained advocate and the opportunity to discuss all of your options. We are dedicated to providing accurate information regarding parenting, adoption and abortion so that each woman who comes through our doors will be able to make an informed decision regarding her pregnancy.

Any woman facing an unplanned pregnancy also finds herself facing difficult decisions. Unfortunately, it is hard to think clearly when you are feeling anxious and stressed. First, consider your options:

  • Parent – Carry the baby to term and parent him/her
  • Adoption – Carry the baby to term and place the baby with another family
  • Abortion – End the pregnancy

Realize that no matter which decision is made, it is a decision that you will live with for the rest of your life. It is important to obtain all the facts about each of your options to determine which is best for you and your pre-born baby.

Single Parenting

Deciding to become a single parent means making a life-long commitment to your baby. Of all your options, single parenthood is probably the one that requires the most lifestyle changes on your part. There are many things to consider when you are thinking of becoming a single parent:

  • Financial resources
  • Your support system (family and friends)
  • Childcare
  • Your career and schooling
  • Living space and conditions
  • Your relationship with the baby’s father
  • Your emotional stability
  • Your physical health

There are many more factors that affect your readiness to choose single parenthood. It is important to consider the environment into which you will be bringing your baby. Ask yourself, “Is this what I want for my child?” If not, is there a better alternative?

Adoption

Adoption is a wonderful alternative to single parenthood or abortion that is overlooked by many women. Many believe that following through with it would be too hard. The fact is, any decision you make will be hard. There is no easy way out. The following are some advantages to choosing adoption:

Consider all of the preparation necessary for becoming a parent and recall the factors listed above. There is no need to worry about these things if you consider placing the baby with another family.

You can still experience the joy of bringing a life into the world, and you can also be reassured that you did everything in your power to give him or her the best possible opportunities in life.

Of all your options, adoption gives you the most control and flexibility. You have the power to choose a family and, in addition, how much contact (if any) you will have with your child.

You have plenty of time (nine whole months) to work out all the details and be sure you are making the right decision.

After the pregnancy, you may once again be able to focus on all of your previous goals and concerns.

Abortion

Just like with your other options, abortion is a decision that will have its own set of consequences. You deserve to know all the facts about abortion before making a decision. Do you know the health risks of abortion (click here to read about health risks) Have you had a sonogram to confirm your pregnancy? If you are considering an abortion, there are many things you need to know and think about:

  • How far along are you?

The cost and type of pregnancy termination is determined by how many weeks a woman is into the pregnancy.

  • Are you sure that your pregnancy is progressing normally and that the baby has been implanted and is growing in your uterus?

It is not uncommon to have a positive pregnancy test and not have a baby growing in the uterus. Women of whom this is true could likely have a miscarriage (20-25% of pregnancies end in miscarriage.) or might even be experiencing a tubal pregnancy.

Before considering the various abortion procedures, we strongly recommend that you have a sonogram/ultrasound to give you answers to these questions.
